CALMETRIX LAUNCHES NEW ISOTHERMAL CALORIMETER
Arlington, MA, May 4, 2012
Calmetrix, supplier of innovative Research and Quality Control solutions in the Cement and Concrete Industry, announced the launch of I-Cal 4000, its new isothermal calorimeter.
I-Cal 4000 features a completely different design from Calmetrix's existing I-Cal 8000 calorimeter. It offers the ability to adjust the thermal mass of each individual reference cell. This added flexibility makes I-Cal 4000 suitable for a wider range of applications, when testing different sample sizes and types. Users can either employ the adjustable references supplied with the equipment, or any custom made reference such as a sample of inert sand.
I-Cal 4000's design also incorporates an improved heat sink and reduced cross talk between cells, all of which adds up to better stability and accuracy.
Yet I-Cal 8000 and I-Cal 4000 use the same sample size and sampel containers, which ensures that both instruments are fully compatible, and data obtained from either one can be compared side-by-side.
Long term user of calorimeters and Calmetrix VP of Applications Paul Sandberg said: "I have been doing research in cement and concrete for over twenty years, with cement producers, at universities and chemical admixtures suppliers. This is the tool I have wished for all along."
I-Cal 4000 is robust and can be used to test cement paste, mortar and real concrete, all at a very affordable cost.
"I-Cal 4000 is priced so that even research centers with a small budget can afford this state-of-the-art tool", said Marc Zacharias, Calmetrix's President. "You could consider buying two units to offer yourself the ability to conduct tests at two different temperatures simultaneously, and it would still cost you less than most other benchtop laboratory equipment."
I-Cal 4000 also integrates well into Calmetrix's existing CalCommander software suite. CalCommander features a series of unique analytical tools to interpret calorimetry data, including software modules to predict compressive strength and setting times. "Who else can offer you that", adds Sandberg, "decades of experience in the application of calorimetry for cement and concrete research come embedded in every Calmetrix product."

CALMETRIX OPENS SALES OFFICE IN INDIA
Arlington, MA, USA and Mumbai, India, May 16, 2011
Calmetrix announced today the openig of a sales office in Mumbai, India.
This move comes in response to the incredibly strong and growing interest for calorimetry products in the Indian market. India has the second highest cement consumption in the world and both its housing and infrastructure are growing rapidly. Educational Institutions and Research Centers are also increasingly investing resources into research in civil and construction engineering, with heavy investment foreseen in laboratory equipment.
"Calmetrix's deep knowledge of the cement and concrete industry can be put to work immediately in this very large market", said Marc Zacharias, President of Calmetrix Inc. "The speed with which construction projects have to be completed, and the high utilization of fly ash in concrete makes calorimetry a perfect tool".
India uses predominantly Pozzolanic Portland Cement, which contains 30% or more fly ash in subtitution of Ordinary Portland Cement. The ensuing variability and often poor quality of fly ash make quality control and mix design a challenging task.
"Calmetrix has several products under development that will put us in the right price range and provide features that are adapted to the local market", adds Zacharias. 'We understand the Indian market well and will put the speed of our product development process to our customers' and our advantage".
The Mumbai office will serve the Indian market, and will also be overseeing sales in neighboring countries in the Middle East, as well as Bangladesh.

CALMETRIX INTRODUCES NEW SOFTWARE MODULE
FOR ACTIVATION ENERGY
Arlington, MA, September 15, 2010
Calmetrix today announced the release of a new software module as an integral part of its CalCommader software suite. The new module, named I-Cal AE, lets users of isothermal calorimetry equipment derive the activation energy of a concrete mix. It can be used with Calmetrix's I-Cal 8000 calorimeter or any other isothermal calorimeter operated with the CalCommander software.
I-Cal AE analyzes samples tested in an isothermal calorimeter at at least three different temperatures. The program infers both the activation energy and the Arrhenius plot for a given mix. Users have a choice to calculate the actyivation energy using algorithms developed by Prof. Anton Schindler of Auburn University, or Lars Wadso of the University of Lund.
"Knowing the activation energy opens a whole new world of possibilities in the application of calorimetry to the science of cement and concrete", says Paul Sandberg, Vice President for Applications and Support. "It not only provides important input on temperature sensitivity, but also opens the door to advanced uses of modeling software such as ConcreteWorks, including the prediction of cracks, especially in concrete mixtures containing high levels of cement substitutes such as fly ash or slag".
The ConcreteWorks software was developed by the Concrete Durability Center at the University of Texas, Austin as part of research funded by the Texas Department of Transportation. The main purpose of the software is to improve the constructability and durability of mass concrete bridge members. ConcreteWorks is a license free application that can can be downloded at:

NEW HIGH PERFORMANCE SEMI-ADIABATIC
CALORIMETER COMES TO MARKET
Arlington, MA, April 30, 2012
Calmetrix, supplier of innovative Research and Quality Control solutions in the Cement and Concrete Industry, announced the launch of P-Cal 1000, its a new high-performance semi-adiabatic calorimeter. P-Cal 1000 is built with ultra-high perfromance materialsgiving teh P-Cal's insulation a thermal resistance (R-value) more than nine times that of high density expanded polystyrene. The result is an instrument that is small in size, and hence highly portable without sacrificing performance.
"Of course, performance comes at a price, and for P-Cal it's an affordable one", says Stan Elektrov, Calmetrix's VP of Engineering. "High perfromance materials at the core allow for a much simplified design overall. The result is a clear win for our customers".
P-Cal 1000 closely mimics the conditions encountered in mass concrete applications, and it can be used to test concrete, mortar or paste. Because of its superior insulation, test results obtained when using P-Cal 1000 are highly repeatable, which makes it possible to compare experiments conducted on different days or at different locations with different outside conditions.
Included with P-Cal is Calmetrix's P-Cal Strength software application, a compressive strength prediction tool based on the classic maturity concept.
"P-Cal Strength is a simple to use, yet powerful application", said Paul Sandberg, Calmetrix VP of Applications. "No more overtime spent on breaking cubes or cylinders at odd hours late at night or on week-ends. Now you can get accurate estimates of compressive strength at a number of curing ages with reduced physical testing and without incurring the inconvenience and cost of working outside of regular work hours."
P-Cal 1000 is simple to use, does not require any external power supply or a dedicated computer. It can easily be taken along on every ready mixed concrete delivery truck, or it can be used in a laboratory, on a job site, on curbsides or in any location where a reliable and objective quality control tool is needed.
